3 major Linux distro upgrades released just now...

You can imagine the stress on mirror servers from the release one a big upgrade to one major Linux distro (SUSE 10, a couple of hours ago), but imagine the load now, with Mandriva 2006 and Ubuntu 5.10 (RC, official due next Thurs) released within minutes of that! Damn. Can't wait to hear some good reviews of the three of them!

Linux isn't some magical beast that grabs new users as soon as a new one is released. People that use linux aren't likely to give up their version and if their version happens to be one of them then they simply upgrade their packages to the new version if its released to older versions as compatible upgrades.

Ubuntu is the only one I am thinking will gain any sort of positive attraction.

Distro switchers would potentially be doing a lot of downloading right now. Like maybe they used another distro for a bit, and are now going to go try suse...

But why would the bittorrent servers be crying? The whole point of bt is that they don't have to. They could supply one full copy of each file and then shut down and the community would continue to be the source of the downloads.

I'm not sure about the other distros, but Mandriva is using Bittorrent so there is minimal load on the mirrors.

The nice thing about bittorrent is that the more people that use it the faster it gets.

At one point when warez thru bittorrent was at it's most popular a more then a third of all internet traffic was bittorrent traffic. In comparision things like e-mail accounted for about 5% or so.

In the beginning when I was new, I was installing a new distro to try them out like eveyone other month. I must of tried all the major distros in like 6 months. 🙂

Have you opened the necessary ports through your firewall? It is usually faster that way.

Well Technically.. the more peers on a torrent, the slower it gets. The more seeders the faster it gets. But I see where you were going. 😉

Although when I started the Suse DVD I was downloading around 70-100KB (thanks to some university in Europe 🙂) and that's when there was about 300 seeds to 1,500 peers.

I'm seeding the x86 dvd right now, pm your ip and I can inject you if you want. I can also try to only allow one upload slot and just upload to you.
