3 Illinois Teens Charged With Helping Friend Kill Parents

basement-dwelling mouthbreathers.. they deserve no mercy.

reading this story saddened me. 🙁 thanks for ruining my morning OP

Wtf. I have to wonder just what was wrong with this kid for him to do such a thing. The friends too of course.

I have a nephew that I think would be capable of doing this. Resentment growing out of lack of respect and lack of direction make outside influences to an "easier way" more attractive. Some people take it to an extreme to get out of responsibility and you get a result like this.

Of course, I have no idea what his motive was, but the situation usually stems from a similar story.

although sad story, LOLZ at the kid getting pulled over for a tail light. I'm sure they would've figured it out eventually if that didn't happen tho

"Salahat's attorney, Joel Brodsky, was skeptical about any statement his client, whom he characterized as an impressionable teenager, may have made. Brodsky also stressed that prosecutors do not allege Salahat took part in the attack. But Dart said Salahat was part of the plot and knew what his friends were doing.

Wyma's attorney, John Russell, said he would have to examine the evidence, including a taped confession, before he could comment.

Granat's attorney said he thinks the arrests of the three will bolster his contention that Granat is innocent.

"I told you if they keep looking they'd find the right killers," said Rick Beuke said."

Here come the lawyers ...

Probably pretty good. They aren't the brightest bulbs.

Saw this this a.m. and started to be outraged but I just shook my head. Only going to get worse.

There are some really sick people in this world...

When John Granat, 44, awoke during the attack and tried to fight back, Qasem and Wyma both pummeled him, according to court records.

While his friends bludgeoned his parents, Granat Jr. went downstairs to search for cash he knew his parents kept hidden in the house, Dart said. Qasem soon joined Granat Jr. to tell him that his mother was still "making noises" in her room, prosecutors said. The 17-year-old responded by giving Qasem a knife and telling him to go back upstairs and "finish them off," prosecutors said.

Qasem stabbed the woman "two to four times," according to court records. He then gave the knife to Granat, who stabbed his mother "numerous" times, prosecutors said. An autopsy showed Maria Granat suffered some 20 stab wounds.

Also...

... Several students at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Palos Hills knew crucial details about the murders, officials said. None of them went to police.

The investigation remains open and others still could face charges as accessories to the murders, said sheriff's spokesman Steve Patterson.

Sheriff's police said a number of Stagg High School students were aware of what happened inside the Granat home but did nothing to help authorities. Wyma and Granat were students at Stagg, where Qasem graduated in the spring. Salahat attends Oak Lawn Community High School.

"Certainly there are other students who knew what happened and even more who knew something bad had happened and they said nothing. They said absolutely nothing," Patterson said.

Just saw this from the article GundamW posted:

he arrests ended the teens' month-long charade as cooperating witnesses in the high-profile murder investigation, authorities said. In addition to refuting Granat's alibi before the grand jury, the trio also had told police that their friend wanted to kill his parents because they destroyed his marijuana stash, sources said.

So he seriously killed his parents because they trashed his weed supply?
