3 IDE devices, 2 IDE connectors???

I am building a new computer and my new mb has only 2 IDE connectors (no RAID this time). I have a single hard drive, a CD Rom, and a CD Writer.

My question is, assuming I should connect my hard drive and Cd Writer as the 2 masters, should I connect my CD Rom as a slave with my hard drive or with my CD Writer? Why?

Thanks for you advice.

I'd do it as a slave to your hard drive. That way if you do any CD-to-CD burning, each drive is on a different channel.

Put it as a slave to teh cd, since most cd copying is done from a image file on the hd insted of straight from the cd. It will not slow your HD down that way.

It depends if you burn directly from CDs a lot... If you do, put the CD-Rom as slave to the HD, the disadvantage is that it'll be slow if you install things from that CD to your HD. If you don't, put it with the burner. Personally, I have my DVD-rom on the same channel as the burner because I almost never burn from a CD directly, and if I do, my burner has burn-proof so it doesn't matter...

Primary IDE (IRQ14) = hard drive
Secondary IDE (IRQ15) = cd and cd writer

This will keep your hard drive optimized.
