Recently I was on a flight to Florida and ran into a funny situation at the security checkpoint.

Here I am putting my bag on the belt, removing my shoes, and emptying my pockets into the little tray. I place the tray on the belt and notice that the belt stopped. I waited for the belt to move and the guard to wave me through the scanner but nothing happens.

After about 30 seconds I actually look around and notice all the security guys are staring at me with raised eyebrows. I look back all confused and then one of them points to the tray on the stopped belt. There, in the middle of the tray, is my 4" teflon coated Gerber lockblade with half-serrated blade. I politly grabbed my stuff, exited the line, and proceded back to the mailing station so I could send the knife home.

Needless to say the second time I went through the line I was more than a little embarassed. One of the smiled and said it happens often.

9/11 was like 4 years ago. security right after people were willing to wait in line for a long time and lived with it, but you know americans... we cut that stuff out. Now as long as we can get through in two hours, security be damned.
