Hi.

I currently own ABIT IP35 and have one WD 750 SATA drive.

Now I'm considering adding 2 seagate 750G SATA drive and make a 3-disk raid-5.

Is this a very bad idea?

The reason is that Fry's is currently having Seagate 750G SATA drive on sale for only $109.

Its not the ideal solution, but that should work fine anyway. Unless you have something really weird for a controller, you should be just fine with different drives, they are the same size, and similar performance etc.

For hardware or onboard fakeRAID it depends on how strict the controller is, for software RAID it'll work no problem.

Thanks. I heard people saying that on-board controller is always software based.

Anyway, the sale already ended last night. I think I have to wait for next sale.

Technically it is, but you're still dependent on the firmware of the controller to create the array so it depends on how strict it is.
