3 dead in NJ murder-suicide

See? This is why I'm a big fan of Knife Control laws. It's pointless murders like this that show that the populace should not have knives. How many more people will die to these weapons before we do the civilized thing and have our Nanny Government take them away from us?!

Yeah, but logic doesn't run on batteries, that one's an easy fix. Who's got some AA's?

If I'm wrong, then forgive me, but it looked like Auggie was making a parody of pro-gun control supporters by relating two weapons which are in such different classes, you can't treat one like the other as simplistically as the above example. Am I way off base?

I'd like to see that knife..... how do you do this "turning the knife on himself"?

Actually recently this IS the sort of thing you see everyday.

And with a knife! A wonder if it was an assault knife. How can we let people own assault knives? They have only one purpose and it aint to cut steak! We need to confiscate all assault knifes before another incident happens.

yes and no. You are correct about the parallel he is making, you are wrong that it's way off base. People who want to murders someone will do it, this incident is case and point.

the parody is strong in this one.

Those goddamn assault knives!

In all seriousness, Geno, I was making the comparison between gun control and 'knife control,' you are correct, but I was trying to be a bit humorous about it, and the point I was trying to make was similar to what thepd7 said. There are many thousands of homocides each year from knife-violence. The case for gun control boils down to removing the potentiator for violence - remove the guns, eliminate the violence. But it's not so simple as that, since knives and blunt-objects are often used in violent crime as well. Extending the gun control argument to its logical end, we should remove all potentiators of violence: guns, knives, crow-bars, baseball bats, large rocks, etc.

If in 2005 there were 11,346 homicides committed via gun violence and there were 5,346 homicides committed via knife or blunt object weapons, you could rightly consider gun violence to be a worse problem, but the "other" category is hardly trivial. Given that many kinds of knives commonly used for violent crime are *already illegal to possess and carry* the fact that that crime category is so large should be a logical argument against gun control.

Edit: Statistics taken from US Dept of Justice website: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/h.../tables/weaponstab.htm

Does anybody else find it odd that people comment on someones myspace page "RIP" and "God be with you". I mean, come on. Go to the funeral, call a family friend, say it in your prayers, but to fucking myspace someone "RIP" is just ridiculous. Or maybe its just me.

I swear to god though, if I ever get murdered, you bastards better not myspace me telling me how much you miss me.

If everyone was armed with assault knives maybe this tragedy could have been prevented?

😛

Mood: nervous

Ironic. And I would say this probably *IS* something you see every day. This world is getting more and more insane. Though, I really wonder how one goes about turning a knife on himself.
