3 Crunchers on one power supply....and he's going for more...

I saw it when he had 2 🙂 now his next step is 4.

Each system only has a Floppy drive, no HDD , etc.... that would explain the lack of need for power.

That aint a bad idea 🙂 It takes the cost of a cruncher way down.

CPU+RAM+Mobo+HSF+floppy+ PS= cheap fast cruncher.

That is awesome. Did he create the power connectors himself?

Yep....a little cut and solder. I've read the article on how to do that, but I don't remember where it is. There are a few wires that you need to leave out because they "control" the power supply. Esentially, one board runs the show on the power supply. If it is on, they all are on...if it's off, they all are off.

Very nice work....a little tedious...but very nice! 🙂

I'm using 11.00 power supply's in mine. I am sure he spent more then 11 bucks. But, he leaves out a bunch of stuff like what kind of CPU's is he running? What brand power supply does he have?

About the connectors you can buy ATX adapters and just splice them into any power supply. Tho, I wouldn't go more then 2-3 units per power supply as overloading is not a good idea on a cheap unit but if your going to spend 50 bucks a pop on brand name P/S, then your spending more then if you just went out and bought cheaper P/S.

I also thought about this but couldn't really get a good lead on cheap ATX mobo power connectors.

If he was running 3 or 4 on a $20 or less PS, then I would be really impressed 😉

That scares me. That is a fire waiting to happen. He even admits the wires themselves are over 100 degrees, and he is planning on adding another blade.

If anyone plans on doing this, please please please get a HUGE PWS with oversize gauge wires, or solder more connectors to the PWS board itself. Daisy-chaining through the ATX molex connector is bad form.

When cheapy PWS's can be had for $20, doing this is just plain stupid. Cool, but stupid.
