3 Back-up CDs = 1 Back-Up DVD

I have Toshiba Satellite 5005-S504 laptop with XP-Home Edition-SP2. The DVD/CD-RW Combo drive(Matshita UJDA710) plays Movie DVD's just fine but will not read CD-R or CD-RW disk. It sounds like a drive failure on the CD side of the drive.

I really don't need a CD-Drive at this time but what would be an alternative to re-install the factory settings with the 3 back-up CDs.

My question is,
How can I make the 3 Back-up CDs = 1 Back-Up DVD.

In case I need to re-install the factory settings, I want to use a back-up DVD instead of 3 CD's(which will not read on my machine anyway).

Thanks in advance.

Make an image of your hard drive using Norton Ghost or some other product, and save it to DVD-R. No need to ever use the factory restore disks again, and you can restore the computer to the exact condition it's in right now (assuming it's running well right now) without having to re-install all your apps.

The Toshiba restore discs won't allow this. The instructions from FlyingPenguin will do the job, as long as you have a DVD-writer on the laptop.

Otherwise, you'll need a new optical drive.
