I'm looking to take some headphones I have here that are currently using a 3.5mm universal jack and strip that off and try and get them to work with a USB connector. I've located the pinouts for USB and the 3.5mm jack. I know there are adapters available...but I'm looking for a very small DIY project and to spend no money.
The USB pinout contains a VCC, two data channels (+ and -) and a ground wire, while the 3.5mm contains ground and a left/right wire. Anyone have a guess at 1.) Whether it is even going to work to begin with and 2.) How would you rig it up? Would you wire the right or left signal from the 3.5 over to the + side of the usb? I know that you don't have to hook up 3.5mm jack headphones to power like to you do desktop speakers with the same connection, do they draw all the power they need through the jack and if so, how would you get power to them in the usb setup?
I think it is do-able, I'm just wondering about the ins and outs and any suggestions
