I'd like to know what kind of power connector it has (since I'd like to get an enclosure that doesn't have a proprietary power cable).

Does anyone have any other pics of the case?

Syba has a website although the picture of the enclosure the poster linked to is different from the three models that Syba sells. All three models have an external power source AND a fan.

As expensive as external HD's are these days, this seems to be worth it... 160 GB Seagate at Fry's for ~$50 AR + enclosure for ~$20= ~$75-80 for a 160 GB USB 2.0 external HD. That's at least half the cost of a retail 160 GB external HD. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong. Are there heat issues with doing this yourself?

I picked up the other Syba enclosure deal over at Acortech.

Unfortuneately the enclosure and my Memorex Dual Format X-1 (Pioneer 106d) won't work.

Do a search on external enclosures and you'll find a whle world of issues that you never knew about...
It's something that you buy into...;)

I have a Bytecc external USB 2.0 enclosure, and though it works it's not as good as the drive would be internally.. For example my 52x burner only can burn at 16x.

Yea, been looking to go external. I have a big problem with paying over 2 times as much per GB and getting only 1/3 or 1/5th the warrenty on the drive. Every damn unit I looked at has only a 1 yr warrenty. Any more info or reviews on the quality of this unit. And has anyone found a turnkey ext. HD unit with a decent warrenty?
Thanks, nomad

Just snagged mine. Earlier today I got a 120 GB Seagate at BB for $50 AR, whiich yields a 120 GB external for about $80!

I've done several of these (not this case) and have had zero issues. The last one I did was the Kangaru DVD writer with media for 42.00 and the case for 35. I got a really excellent firewire/USB2 dual layer DVD burner for 72 bucks after MIR. The drive came with Nero suite and Power DVD 5 or 6 as well. I think I will order a couple of these, the price is right.

OK, so I got my and put a 120 GB Seagate in it. After about a week, the fan started making a screeching noise for the first souple of minutes after start-up. Kinda sucks...

I guess my next one will be fanless...
