3.4EE / 3.2EE overclocked?

depending on the sample and cooling used, at least 4ghz i'd say, considering other p4s have easily reached that...i don't think the extra cache would hold anything back but i'm not sure.

Hey thanks a lot guys 🙂 But let me rephrase, how much could it be overclocked to without adding any extra cooling? If im going to spend all that money on an EE, id like to save some money by not adding extra cooling. But before I upgrade im going to wait for the r420/nv40, so by that time the 3.2EE and 3.4EE will have dropped in price.
 
Just because it is a EE is doesn't have some special overclocking advantage over NW cores...

Other than the extra cache ofcourse...

I would think 3.6 would be obtainable..
 
It's highly doubtful 3.2+ EE will ever drop in price. They are the elite very expensive gallatin core chips and will probably always remain above $700US

it'd be more cost effective to get an nventiv 2 or vapochill cooling system and Athlon 64 or p4 C chip than the overpriced EE.
 
Cold facts, www.hothardware.com and i'm sure others if you search/ 3.8 seems to be the stretch.... bout the same as a Northwood. However, It benches better, yet however again= unless you eat beches for breakfast, What good is it in common usage?
 
Too much cache on the EE for a strong OC. I recommend you wait until April before you buy anything, doubt you'll need the EE right now.

I have the 3.2EE, and i can overclock to 3.6 with out any effort, on air cooling. Very stable, solid.

I am thinking of getting Prometia MachII, then ill go for 4GHZ+.

 
i don't think these things can do 4 ghz on air...

most people running these over 4 ghz are doing it with phase change...

i wonder if the yeilds are good enough on these to undervolt them

to say maybe 1.3 or something

but back to the question at hand, i would bet money the 3.2 and 3.4 would overclock to atleast 3.8ghz with at most a .1v overclock
the difference in which speeds grades overclock the most should be minimul as with most new cores

there will be many that get near or over 4ghz tho
since i can already find a few links online to 4.2ghz overclocks on air cooling

There's a difference between a 4.0g OC (taking a CPUZ screenie) and a stable 4.0g OC. I'd beg to differ with those 4.0g clocks on air- 99.9% guaranteed- they ain't stable at even 1.65- 1.7v. My money says they crash prime 95 in less than 5 minutes on air.

Find me a screenie w/ CPUZ (voltage, clocks, etc...) and a 24hr prime 95 readout without errors.

I've personally run my 3.0c up to 3.825g for gaming and benchies, but 3675mhz was the highest 24hr p95 stable OC. There are better OC'ers I'm sure, but this was on WC and only 1.6v (44C loaded temps on my IC7-MAX3).

I've seen two other 3.0c's 24hr p95 stable at 3800mhz- rare indeed on air. EE's may perform better, but I find 4.0g hard to believe on air.

If only Caz's money were brains. P4EE is a waste of money no matter how you look at it. a P4 3.2EE is 60% more expensive than a P4 3.2C and only 15%~ or so faster (if that). Too much of a price premium if you ask me, For that money i'd rather have dual opterons or something.
 
With a prometia and a 3.4 you could probably hit 4 gig and that would be one screaming proc at that speed.
