3.4 Northwood/Cannot Overclock FSB Past 215 MHz

I am having a bit of a problem overclocking my system....here are my specs to start out with:

-Pentium 4 3.4 GHz Northwood
-Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Motherboard
-1 Gb (512 Mb x 2) OCZ PC4400 Gold Edition RAM
-BFG 6800 GT OC
-Western Digital Raptor 37 Gb x 2

I cannot get my FSB past 215 without it being extremely unstable....I have tried just about everything, and my temperature right before it crashes doesn't get any higher than 45 C. What am I doing wrong? My VCore is set for 1.6750, VDimm at 2.85, and all other options are set for 'Auto'. Once I put my FSB to 220, that's when it starts to get unstable. PLEASE ADVISE!

Very possible it's the chips limit. Turn down vcore and see if it's still stable. If you can drop vcore a considerable way without losing stability, then I'd start suspecting other issues.

Actually I'd say that's a fairly common clock for current Northwoods, especially the 3.4's. If it were my chip I wouldn't be happy with that overclock (Not that I'd even consider buying a 3.4 unless they were hitting 4.5ghz+ on air), but it's certainly not so low that you can rule out having reached the processor limit.

Did you lock your AGP/PCI to 66/33, don't leave it on auto. From what I have seen the 3.4C should do better then that. What cooling are you using? Drop your vcore back to 1.55 for now.

I am using that big Zalman Heatsink/Fan combo....the copper one. My power supply is the new modular ConnectX 500 Watt. I am dissapointed with 215 because after doing alot of research it seems like some people are getting like 225+ no problem. I don't know....some people have suggested my RAM is incompatible with my motherboard. I get blue screens even after setting my ratio to 3:2, locking my AGP/PCI bus at 66/33. I can get my computer to boot at speeds of like 3.9....it's just that when I start stressing it, it becomes unstable and crashes after 5-10 minutes of Prime95. I've heard mixed reports that my RAM is too fast and using PC4000 or PC3700 would be better....is there any truth to this?

i got a 2.8c SL6Z5 "MO stepping"@ 3.6 with 1.55 vcore in my modded P4C800-E....wanna swap? I need a 3.4c for my Shuttle XPC...Let me know...

Death and taxes are the only sure things. Overclocking is NOT a sure thing.

3650 is about the average people are getting with nortwood's on air.

3.4 is good for low OC's. The 3.0 and 3.2 are much better for OC.
The ram is overkill for that setup, but not a problem.

The Voltage is WAY overkill. I would start with default and start moving up a notch every time.

I've never passed the 1.65v, and got one 3.0@3915 with 1.625v.

Also, one good question that someone wrote, is about the PSU. Maybe it's weak at keeping everything happy. 6800GT + 2xRaptor + cpu = maybe trouble on amperes...
