3/4 inch thick wood enough to support the workings of the power supply, cd drives, hard drives in a case? Also...

...I plan to use a drawer like system that would pull out the bays to the cd drives, hard and floppy drives and the power supply. Just take out the drawer, add what is necessary, and place it back in.

I really need to show you what I am thinking of. Too bad I do not have a program capable of drawing lines and at the same time show what length it is before I snap it in place. But on paper, it looks promising for my new case. Big though. :)

But still working at the specs.

3/4" will work, but also consider drilling some holes to facilitate circulation from beneath.

those "open" cases work well but dust becomes a major problem, not mention fan &/or cooler noises.

let us know how it works out.

I've been kicking around the idea of using an old aquarium as a cover and adding some major fans to help air movement and cooling. maybe one day after i finish with "X" number of other projects. :)

if you want to look into mounting the drives easily, that is not too much work... try looking into drive rails.

sounds like a custom rack mount chassis to me.
