I'm favoring the 3.2. I know that the A64 is better for gaming but I feel more comfortable with Intel. I've never had an AMD system and I've always just liked Intel. I know that benches show the A64 as fastest but I won't be able to tell a difference. And the 3.2 is definitely not lacking.

A64 is faster, uses less power, runs cooler, and offers future 64bit what's not to like? Ok, ok chipsets, but the new nVidia 250GB is very good.:)

If you go for intel then you have fallen into the "Intel-Advertising" pit. Pick a product on performance.

Dont be fooled with the catchy little tune from intel and their advertising. AMD is an experienced and dominating company.

Intel is a great advertsing company that really flufs their product *10. These days, that seems like their only goal - to fool regular consumers to believe that intel is reliable and performs well.

Pixle.

Your correct, you won't notice difference that much. I have a Pentium 4 3.0 and its still very fast, my next system will probably be an AMD since its cheap and fast. But maybe if Intel release something GREAT soon then I may get Intel.

Those comparasons don't show the 2 processors that he is choosing between. I would go with the A64. P4 3.2 WILL be faster at video editing and mabye a few other applications. But barley noticable in the applications and is very comptetive in the video editing (less than 10 second difference i would assume)

I think AMD has more of a performance/price hit. And it even runs faster than an Intel...so why not? :p

I like it a lot.

Nice RAM, btw. Expensive but really nice.

Why's that? AMD is faster at that too.

not really. lets compare similar processors: A64 3000+ vs 3.0C.

http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1937&p=5

look at the last benchie, the A64 gets crushed

2.8C beating the A64 3000+ here<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://

I was hoping someone would come back on that siince I purposly left out the MPG encoding at Hard and concetrated on LAME and AVI. . My generalization and oversimplification was to offset your generalization and oversimplification as it depends highly what app is used and type of encoding as to who "wins".:)

My question exactly. Even in the initial post his decision seems already made.

What a tool.

wider range of comparison

In the MP3 encoding benchmark the Intel is beyond any competition due to the higher core clock. The memory speed is not very influential.

The MPEG2 to DivX encoding is a more complicated problem, and the core clock and the CPU/memory bus bandwidth are both important. The Athlon 64 FX comes very close to the Pentium 4. And the other processors from AMD have better scores than the previous Athlon XP.

seems to me its fair to say that the p4 will win a vast majority of the time when it comes to encoding

in all fairness, i never said the P4 will win in all encoding scenarios

Eh I don't agree with peole saying the 3000 is faster in gaming. The intel rapes dude. Go with that.

Why are you comparing a 3.2 with a 3.0?

I've always just liked Intel
If you "just like" intel, it's not a good reason to purchase them over AMD IMO.

The A64 is far superior, as I'm sure you've been told, and others are sure to tell you. Intel only wins in video encoding, which most people do not do as their primary computing task.

I share your frustration. Intel fanboys are everywhere today.

Athlon all the way... far more cost conscious than the P4. if the P4 was 1/2 the price, it might be a worthy contender.

well, if we are comparing "equal" processors, the A64 3000+ is about the same in price as the 3.0C
