3:2 or 5:4 ratio

i have a p4 2.6C that is runnin at 280fsb right now on ddr 266 and im pretty sure it can go farther once i get better ram
ive determined that im not gonna be runnin the ram at 1:1 ratio because then id have to get ocz 4200el just to run it at 280fsb and id be usin loose timings. since i am pretty sure the cpu can go farther than 280fsb i am gonna end up using either 5:4 or 3:2 ratio. at 3:2 ratio i will definately be able to use case 2-2-2-5 with ocz 3500 platinum
but using 5:4 ratio i my ram will be runnin most likely at cas 2.5 around ddr 500
so my question is which will perform better ddr400@cas 2-2-2-5 or ddr 500 at cas 2.5

i guess im just confused because everyone on the forums tells me that tighter timings usually is better than raw clockspeed in ram but then i read the review of ocz 4200el and it shows that the ocz 4200el is firmly in the lead of memory performance at 560mhz and not to far behind at lower speeds

thanx for all the advice though

Bandwidth has to do with fsb and ddr speed, no matter what you hear. For instance, If I run 250fsb with my cpu at 5/4, @ 2225, I need to run 245fsb 1/1 2.5.3.4.6 to match it/ if that makes any sense. In the long run, 1/1 is better with a fsb of 245 and up

And this is only in some apps (gaming)...I tested many multimedia apps and the 1/1 would have had to be higher.

I got a pair of pc4300 here that I am testing and except in ut2003demo the 500ddr with cas 3,4,4,8 is worse or equal in many things to my system at same fsb but using 5:4 ratio for 400ddr and cas 2,7,3,3....Usually 1:1 at same fsb will always win but cas timings are very important sometimes as much as difference in overall speed.

blanket statements like above are not always true...you really just need to test it yourself with the type of apps you run. If those pc4300 sticks did cas 2.5 I am ure it would have been faster.....

Uggggg, not again

what ALL of you fail to realize, is that no matter which ratio you run ~ you are still running the same FSB!
FSB in and of itself offers most the performance you see above 245(?)fsb.
thats also why memory ratio and or cas settings dont mean very much ~ its the FSB it wants!

or in my case, c2622 & GAT StreetRacer offers a good replacement for lack of FSB 😉

either way, its fast

well i think im just gonna get some ocz 4200el and test it both ways 1:1 3:4 and 5:4 either way its gonna be nice.

thanx once again guys
