I'm sure this is mentioned elsewhere, but for those of you using the ATI 9700 Pro or ATI AIW 9700 Pro, you may want to reconsider using the 3.2 drivers. When I'm in Counterstrike (1.5) and hit the escape key while playing a game, the computer almost invariably locks-up. This problem did not occur on the 3.1 drivers or indeed any previous drivers that I'm aware of.

I use a clean installation of Windows XP Pro on a KT333 motherboard using an AMD 2400+. Counterstrike is the retail version, upgraded directly to 1.5. I've sent an error report to ATI and I expect this rather obvious bug will be fixed in 3.3.

I tryed Cat 3.2, but went back to 3.1.
They caused serious problems with C&C General for me. Like crashes, jerkyness, ect;

There have been a couple of posts about this problem. Supposed to be fixed in version 3.3 I would say for now all you can do is roll back to the 3.1's

3.3's are right around the corner. Should fix this problem and add a nice performance boost.

That Half-Life/CS problem is a known issue with the 3.2s.
I suggest using the 3.1s if you play those games and waiting for the new drivers. :)

Just uninstall the current drivers and clean the registry and you're good to go.

I actually like the 3.2 The jeckyness is gone on 3dmark. Games are alright. I've not touched CS in a long time though. :)

ug... what a pain in the arse... why is there such a problm with the catalyst drivers but no such problem with those good ol' nvidia dets?

and i suppose if everythign goes smoothly when doing a normal upgrade, all th9ose steps can be forgone?

3.2's screw up my opengl but for now I am just waiting for the 3.3 and not going back to the 3.1

I have to use Direct 3d in CS/HL or I Have problems... and the games that don't have that option I can't play them for now...

I've never followed those steps when upgrading from one Catalyst revision to another, and haven't had any problems. However, if you're going from nvidia to ATI or vice versa, you definitely need to follow the driver cleaning steps.

exactly... these steps arent neccessary, but for a n00b like myself and others... its a good jumping point...

i dont play cs, but i play everything else sans RPGs... had no probs yet running cat3.2s

As of now, I'll be yanking my Geforce2MX out and replacing it with a FIC Radeon 9700NP. Do you think it's worth it to go through the cleaning steps without just trying to update as normal? I figured I'd just uninstall the card in XP and reboot. Because the system is custom built by yours truly and gets at least 2 fresh formats a year, it tends to stay problem-free, so I may just uninstall, shut down, swap card, boot up, instal 3.2 cats. Comments, questions?

I would definitely recommend uninstalling the nvidia drivers and using the driver cleaner, unless you plan to reinstall Windows XP immediately after the installation of your video card anyway. It's worth the small hassle, IMHO, to save yourself over an hour of time later on.

I have removed and installed 3.2 drivers like 4 times recently with no problems thanks to the link that pomonkey gave...

the only problem I am having so far is that when I load Tribes or Tribes 2 my screen is black and when I drag the mouse over the screen, the black draws in if I move the mouse to the top and the bottom of the screen is black. Tribes 2 is also flickering really bad....

Dont speak so soon. I can guarantee that you will have a problem of some sort relating to old nVidia drivers. Particulary performance problems.

Um not really

When I went from a GF4 to a 9700 all I did was uninstall the drivers, removed the video from Hardware manager and than shutdown. Installed the 9700 Pro and drivers..... no problems....

Yeah, dets are perfect, my ass.
I had the 42.90's, I think something around there, went back to 30.82's, then went to 43.65's from the website and things played jerky as hell.
The first 2 drivers were fine, had to uninstall, clear reg entries, reinstall, to get decent performance without mega jerks.
I installed/uninstalled all the drivers in the same manner, one I have done countless times before without problem.

Dets can be just as crap :p

The 3.2 drivers will not boot for me. Can't figure it out. Worked fine untill I upgraded to HyperX PC 3000 memory and an XP2100+. Any ideas?
