3/17/11 Steam Weekend Deal: Darksiders 75% off, Monday Night Combat free weekend

Darksiders is the weekend deal for $10, 75% off.

Good game, it is like a mix between Zelda and a simplified God of War combat system.

I do not believe there is a demo out for the PC, but if you have a PS3/360 I think there is a demo on there you can try out.

Also, Monday Night Combat is on sale for $10.04, 33% off with this weekend being a free play weekend.

For $10, I recommend it. Not the best game I've ever played, but it's a lot like Ocarina of Time meets God of War. The art style is dark and somewhat cartoony, but the game play delivers.

I was going to ask how good the game was, but everyone's telling me "like a mix between Zelda and God of War". Those are both games that I like, so that's all I need to hear. 🙂 Bought.

Why's the MSRP on this game still $40? I was hoping at 75% off it'd be like $5.

To be fair, the PC version was just released last September, so it hasn't been very long. But I do think the MSRP will probably go down pretty soon. Actually, this is probably clever timing from Steam and THQ, to put it on sale now for 75% off while it's still at a higher MSRP, and then wait to actually lower it.

I'm about 45 minutes into the game and it's funny how much they ripped off GOW2 on this. You start off as a bad ass with so many powers, then you lose them and spend the rest of the time getting them back!

It's also kinda funny how GOW programmed me into expecting quicktime events. Every time I finish a big baddie and War starts tearing him apart, I'm ready to press the right button at the right time only to realize I don't have to! Nice 🙂

GOW2 wasn't the first game to introduce this game mechanic. 7 years ago I remember playing Metroid Prime 2, where at the beginning of the game you have all of your awesome suit powers, but then a catastrophic event happens that forces you to reclaim all of your different abilities one-by-one throughout the rest of the campaign.

You scared me for a second - it sounded like you said that Darksiders had quicktime events in it. I'm so glad that it doesn't. 🙂

Yeah I figure GOW2 wasn't the first to do that but looking at how close the game is overall to GOW it's kinda funny.

And yeah, no QTE. You do have to press a button to initiate the final blow, but nothing after that. At least, not as far as I've progressed.

Great, I've been wanting to try Monday Night Combat, though I'm not sure if willing to pay $10 for it, feels more like $5.

The game just wasn't my thing but it is a very good price for a reasonably long sp game. A few folks (including me) have a couple of crashes mostly near hte beginning but after a while they go away. I.e., even though I didn't love the game I think it was well constructed and probably better than a lot of the trash out there; so for $10 it is a good deal.

So I've been playing Darksiders for 3 or 4 hours already, and all I have to say is: Damn. It's awesome. This game is just what I needed.

It's best played with an Xbox 360 controller, as this game was clearly designed with a gamepad in mind. It's absolutely true that it's a mix between God of War and Zelda. Fantastic button-mashing, sword-slashing action I say. 🙂

Eventually decided to get Darksiders last night before the sale ended. I'm glad I did! It's a fun game and should have some decent replay value with all the unlockable stuff you can buy. So far it's pretty easy but I've only played about an hour.

It is pretty consolized; the only settings are resolution and Vsync, but oh well. It's not very demanding but it still looks pretty good. Playing with a controller works great.

It is funny that the main character, War, looks almost exactly like Arthas from that Warcraft 3 cinematic:
