If you're one to enjoy a good detective/adventure type game, do yourself a favor and pick up LA Noire. I can't think of any other games like it, with the same level of polish and detail. I bought it for a bit cheaper during the holiday sale (~$12), but I definitely got way more than $15 worth of entertainment out of it. Try it out.

Orcs Must Die! is great too. For different reasons. :p It's been on sale a million times by now, but I don't mind, because it's actually really good.

orcs must die is a refreshing take on traditional tower defenses, a cross between tower defense and FPS. That being said I haven't finished it yet, its something I can't sit down with for more than an hour at a time for some reason.

It's OK. Not as bad as GTA4.

The framerate is actually capped at 30fps, but if that bothers you, there's a mod to remove it.

Don't buy the game thinking you'll actually use this mod. Yes, it allows 60fps, but it also halves the SPEED of the cutscenes.

I see. I haven't actually used the mod myself, so I wouldn't know. I'm perfectly happy with the vanilla game. The 30fps cap doesn't bother me.

It kindof bothered me - especially because I KNOW that my system could have done 60 - but I understand that they sortof had to do this because of the rate at which motion-capture was done.

Regardless, it's a refreshing take on an old movies-styled theme, and an excellent game.

I'm interested in L.A. Noire but confused on the difference between the 'Complete Edition' and 'plain-vanilla game + DLC bundle'. The latter comes up cheaper so there must be something else included in the Complete Edition?

Huh? The Complete Edition comes up cheaper than the vanilla game + DLC. (Granted, it's only a dollar cheaper, but still.)

Must be the different pricing structure for Australia. Here they are charging $14.99 + $8.99 for the game + DLC. The Complete Edition is $29.99.

So what will I be missing if I forgo the Complete edition?

That makes sense. Video game prices outside the US tend to be pretty fouled up sometimes.

The DLC basically just includes some extra cases/missions. Which, honestly, I would actually recommend. I bought the Complete Edition a couple months ago for cheap and it blends in the DLC seamlessly with the core game. It's not like an extra campaign or anything that's separate, but it expands upon the main storyline. Which is cool.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. I only say this because when I was early in the game, I talked about it with one of my friends who played it on 360, and he said "Oh, that mission must be part of the DLC. I don't remember playing that one". I was playing the DLC without even realizing it I guess.

This is stupid.

I decided to just buy the plain vanilla game + DLC for $24 (vs the Complete edition at $30). And now I have the Complete edition in my library! Truly weird pricing indeed.

Bought Orcs Must Die collection. Good example of Steam getting me to spend $ on a game I never would have otherwise. Looks like it will be a fun diversion.

Hmm, L. A. Noire seems to be off to a slow start for me. Lots of cut-scenes and backflashes and not much game play. Hope it speeds up a bit, or at least they back off the cut-scenes, because I seem to spend a lot of time staring at the monitor.

And as it's been a few years now since I played any GTA, I'm reminded how much I hate Rockstar's system for vehicle control. Why couldn't they let me steer with the mouse and right click or hold shift to free look?
