3.1 Speaker/Sub set up suggestions? $1000 budget?

I'm getting the itch to upgrade my Polk r30s fronts and matching CSi25 center speakers and cheap KLH subwoofer to something better. They have served me well, but they were very much budget friendly.

I have a Pioneer VSX-1015TX receiver with no plans to upgrade it at the moment.

I hope to get surrounds for 5.1 someday but want to put my money into a good 3.1 set up right now.

What would folks recommend for a budget of ~$1000 for the two fronts, center, and woofer to pair with my Pioneer receiver? Primary use would be streaming music from my HTPC and of course, movie watching.

Thanks for the help!

What do you not like about your current setup? If the speakers are fine for your use, sinking 1k$ into a subwoofer or two would yield a substantial return in terms of added sound quality. Of course, proper placement is a must, the old KLH sub could be used as an ancillary subwoofer not so much for more output, but to even out the upper bass within your room.

SVS, HSU, epic, eD, are all standard recommendations for nice entry-mid level subwoofers.

For speakers, you will have to find a place to listen to candidates in your price range and see what you like. They all sound pretty different and everyone has their own personal preferences when it comes to speaker sound quality.

As usual, questions like "whats the size of your enclosed space, how far do you sit from your setup, how loud to you listen, etc." need to be answered.
