I'm going to replace my mobo, CPU, RAM, and Video as soon as some solid numbers come out on the ATI R420. I can't decide if I should go with the 3.0C or 3.OE or maybe a 3.2C. Anyone have any suggestions? I think the 3.0C and 3.0E are about the same price and the 3.2C is about $60 more.

according to the AT article.... the C and E's are almost the same... but once you get to higher clockspeeds, the E's are better...

what kind of cooling do you have? or are you planning on using stock cooling with whatever you get?
do you plan to overclock?

if you are going to overclock and are planning on usin the stock cooling the u should get the 3.0C, if you have some nice cooling, atleast water, phase-change recommended, then get the 3.0E, even then i still suggest the 3.0C couse early steppings of new cores are usually quite bad (wilmette comes to mind)

From ATs article, it seems like you oughta get the 3.0c. That's what I'm planning on, except I think I'm gonna get the 2.8c

If you are buying now, then get the C. You might also consider the 2.8C (MO stepping) if you are going to OC. There have been some good results with these and they run a little cooler with their 1.425vcore.

P4E is worthless right now. What you are seeing as P4C and P4E scale are the diminishing returns because of stalled accesses to memory. P4E scales better only because of 1MB cache decreases average memory latency. Unfortunately, heat also scales exponentially - and unless you have watercooling in mind, you're in for a hot ride. Personally, A64 is the only way to go for games, unless you want to shell out the extra money for the P4EE.

the a64 is around the same as the 3.0c's and such. how about a 3000+ or something theyll we awesome when the 64 operating system comes out! and as a gaming pc the 64bit 3000+ will be excellent

One more question. When is Intel going to change sockets? I don't want to buy a socket 478 mobo if it's about ready to be discontinued.

Socket 478 is a long way away from being discontinued at this point. The new sockets should be out around May or June but I would not recommend them just yet. Need to see some reviews on the new stepping for the P4E chips IMHO.
