I got back from Fry's a few minutes ago and they are already "selling" the P4 3.06GHz for $700! I at first was blown away that they would list it, but then I asked the guy and he said that they will be available Nov. 14.

They also had the Athlon 2600+ with 333MHz FSB, I asked him about that and he said this coming Monday you will be able to buy them. They were $324, a bit cheaper than the Intel

So I guess these dates confirm what have been circling around on the net, but it is always nice to hear it from the horses mouth.

Cheers!

That Pentium4 at 3.06GHz rocks especially if you can get it to 4.5GHz! WoW! That'd be something.

Where did you get that you think you will be able to even get close to 4.5ghz??? I bet they don't oc much more the 3.4-3.5ghz max if that....c1 steeping chips only on average get to around 3.2ghz so it would have taken some massive breakthrough for that....

The 3.06ghz will be high for awhile but it will help to drive the 2.53 to sub 200 and the 2.66 and 2.8 to close to 300 range.

We really need to see the benefit of hyperthreading in action to see if this only mounts to a cpu mhz hike. The gRanite Bay Dual channel DDR mobos may steal the show that day anyways and give the impressive the 3.06ghz is better then it is.

You're contradicting yourself there. First you say that they have it, and then you say it will be available later. What is it?

Well they say they have it, but they won't sell it till Nov. 14.

Anyway, I think the 3.06 will OC with good air to about 3.4GHz or so. I don't think much higher because it appears that the P4 is reaching the top of its rapid clock speed rise. Similar to what is happening with AMD, only not that bad. I think we will have to wait for Prescott before we readily get to 4GHz.

Just my $0.02
