^ Well, they aren't due in for another 5 days. For all I know, in five days as the price cuts sink in elsewhere it could actually be cheaper. So don't burn yourself.

Figures (based on your name). :)

Me personally, once the new p4 3ghz w/ 800fsb comes out (within a month), thats my new baby! Been waiting to upgrade my p4 1.7 (400fsb) for this exact thing!

You bet I'm joking ;). I too consider anything over $150 for a desktop processor to be excessive and I like to spend less than $100. I'm definately a frugal dude!

Yea!

Why spend $400 on a new 3 gigahertz processor when you can spend $367 on a new Dell with all the trimmings. :)

I only upgrade my processor every year and half, so I go for performance over price. I used to buy the "best bang for the buck" a few years back, but found myself upgrading every 5-6 months....in the long run it actually ended up costing me more money (not to mention my wife nagging me about me "just buying an upgrade not to long ago". At least now I can buy the best without her negative input. ;)

I am doing the same thing as well. I now do a complete system over haul every 2 years. Right now, I am itching to get a new PC [currently have a 1.5gighz, GF3]. Gonna wait till the end of summer to pick up my new equipement, or so I hope. I used to spend way too much on PC hardware when I kept on buying new chipsets/video cards when I followed the price over performance.

I'm curious... Has anybody actually been able to order one of these at $400?? I was looking at Newegg the other day (Sunday, I think) - the price was $475 (in stock). A couple of hours later it had dropped to $460 (now out of stock). The next day it was $400 (but still out of stock).

Did they really drop the price this much, or are they just playing games -- is the price going to jump back up once the chips are in stock again??

I agree with AMDsoldier. I won't buy anything if its over $100. I refuse to put more into a $2 piece of silicon with a few wires and capacitors. I wait till every component is less than $100 and you know what my main computer can do/play anything I throw at it. Also with the help of Hot Deals its gotten even better. For those of you who waste your surplus incomes on $400 video cards and $600 processors I feel for you. There is no prize for having a 6.4gigaflop computer before the other technodorks do. Time to unplug, get out, and do something.

i'm really curious about how many of you who buy on the bleeding edge actually tax your processors to begin with.

those of you who are ready to buy the new p4 chip, what are you using your machines for that will take advantage of the hyperthreading and increased mhz?
