3 flipping million.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I suspected it'd be a hit, but never would have predicted those kinds of numbers...

I suspect the new iPhone will break a million in less than a week.

considering iphone preorders were over 600k that's probably a good bet.

Hopefully this will push Apple's competitors to get their own slate computers out sooner.

A week? They've already sold 600K. Not including in-store purchases on launch day, and I'm not sure if that's including AT&T pre-orders. Throw in Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and others and I won't be surprised by a million+ on launch day.

Depends on production...and with LG and Foxconn having issues who knows... But I bet they could do that easy and sell 15 million a quarter if able.

Pliable - I'm surprised apple is selling this many I hate this device - does nothing I need well. Doesnt call, harder to type, not a PC, etc. But to each his own:) I'm sticking with my X Series thinkpad.

isn't there about 300 million people in the US? this would be 1%, about the right number for fanaticism

Most people are broke and can't afford an ipad. I mean lets face it it's not a necessity @$700 - overall 3 million for a luxury item is pretty damn good.

I love the device. Typing is great for a touch pad and it runs everything fast and smooth. You can make calls if you use Skype which has far superior voice quality than a typical cell call. My wife loves her iPad, and I'll get one when the second gen is released to correct some of the shortcomings.

its good, but i'll get another one when it's better! par for the course, when it comes to how they release their software and hardware upgrades for the iPhone...

i like the product, but i cant shake the feeling that they intentionally hold back some features just to string customers along.

This isn't really new for Apple at all. They have to get people to keep buying the hardware somehow.

This strategy works because Apple makes class leading products at the time of the release.

Apple release a new phone every year - "they're trying to milk their customers for every penny they can!"

Motorola releases a new Droid every year - "YEAH MOTO IS AWESOME!"
RIM releases a new Storm every year - "WOOPWOOP RIM!"
HTC releases a new Touch every year - "Awesome sauce maaan"

The majority of "features" are added via iOS updates, which don't cost squat. Apple does what basically every other phone manufacture does, but for some strange reason they get shitted on badly for doing it. While Moto, Samsung, HTC, LG RIM and others all get a pass

I think it's Apple's fans that mainly cause the overall hate towards Apple in the first place. I used to, like a lot of others, give Apple a ton of shit for claiming their new OS features like copy and paste were 'new and groundbreaking' when other phones have had it for years. BUT, after I started actually following Apple and seeing release news and such straight out of the company, they never actually claimed they were doing something new with that stuff. It was the ignorant Apple fan-boys that praised Apple for doing something revolutionary when it was anything but. People get annoyed with all the overblown shit the fan-boys say and peg it on Apple when it's not always their fault.

Do you see a giant event to unveil a new phone from motorola? Ok maybe today with the new droid.

that's difference between apple and those company is they don't go and claim marginal upgrades are the greatest thing ever and hold some giant event. maybe its the fanboys that are doing it. But steve jobs sure likes to pile it on to help them out. Can't blame him.
If people go gaga over your products and will keep buying it when its hardly a major upgrade, I'd do everything I can to get them to buy it.

with the iphone 4 having 512megs of ram I think I'll wait for the upgrade in the ipad to match. Maybe they'll use the same display as the iphone too then buy. I don't care too much for a front facing camera.

I'm sure the ipod touch refresh in september will use the same screen. my original ipod has started to feel old and slow.

Plus I need time to come up with an excuse to buy a 500 dollar toy. I already use the "its bigger so we don't go blind" excuse on a tv already. I don't think I can use that one again for a few more months.

Then their marketing managers should be fired.

That, or nobody cares about the other phones.
