Gah! Hello, been lurking here for a while, thought I would start posting. I just got a 3.0 Ghz P4, with Canterwood, and 2 Wd Raptor drives that I have running in a RAID 0 - Windows XP installed in 8 MINUTES!!!!

Yay! CPU running temp is about 39c, not to bad either!

🙂

Welcome!

What brand mobo do you have and are you planning to overclock it? That's where the fun really starts.

I have the GigaByte 8knxp (non ultra). I need to get some good memory in this puppy first before I do any overclocking. Warning to those getting this board, or any 865/75 - it is picky about ram!! The first batch I had just gave me error after error, but were fine by themselves. They were Kingston Value Ram cheapos I bought for the time being until OCZ releases their new Platinum ram.

you can thank the fast install time on the hard drives 😛

I just got my NForce2 and XP2500+ Barton and sold my P4 2.4 @ 3.0 cause I'm an AMD fanboi... 🙂 I love my new setup..

All "fanboiness" aside... how do the two compare in your opinion?

I am sure the HDs helped, though I dont know how optimised the driver was until you load the IAA raid Edition.

Just as a note to anyone who wants to make install windows 2000/xp/+ on a Raid created by the intel SATA - you need to get a copy of the Intel Application Accelerator Raid Floppy Edition. The board didnt come with it! took me some time to search it out, but I did find it in some PDF at intel's site. HTH in the future 😉

in all honesty the Athlon feels faster even at stock speeds... UT2003 runs better now than it did with the P4 for some reason, but my 3dmark scores went down (big whoop)... in all reality the scores are probably accurate as my clock speed went down 1.2 Ghz 😉 from 3.0 to 1.83 of the Barton 2500+ but I really think the extra cache and 166 FSB help this chip be very fast indeed... I am sure the CAS2 dual DDR setup helps alot too.. 😀 I am happy with it!!

LOL... Yea if ya cheat and do the Quick format...LOL... Where you loading XP off a CD or another HD. What do you consider a full load. I know XP did not see all your drivers for your motherboard. And yea you can load it quick but when it crashes in a week you'll be having to load it quick again. Hope you back up your data.

I posted this in another thread, but it fits here too! I decided to "stress" my computer, curious about the hyper threading - 3 Quake III Games open, and that 3d goldfish screensaver running behind them! 1600x1200 desktop res (I shrunk the pic a bit)

The CPU wasnt even peged, and the darn system was doing other things like I wasnt even playing a game, let alone 3. Granted the FPS isnt that great on each game but I am sure I am hitting the limit on my GF4 heh 🙂

Thats an interesting keygen in that screenshot. :|

That shot with the 3 Q3 running is pretty impressive. I didn't realize that the new P4s could do stuff to that extent. Cool. I can't wait to buy one now. 🙂

heh, my 3dmark2k1 score went down 3000 points... but like i said.. over 1Ghz in speed can do that to you.. my P4 was heavily overclocked and running a high memory and FSB.. this thing is all stock still.. 😉

Running the O/S on RAID0 is asking for Trouble........

Data loss isnt an issue, I have 2 WD1200JB Drives in a RAID 1 that hold all of my data, all my docs, desktop, favorites, startmenu, hell you name it is actually on that drive.
