2x74Gb Raptors in RAID0: Windows not detecting

i had a friend build my pc for me and when he did he put 2x74Gb Raptors in RAID0 which windows used to boot from. unfortunately he didn't configure the RAID. about 6 months ago i unplugged them and things went wrong.

i have a A8N-SLI Deluxe Asus mobo which has an inbuilt RAID controller. i have tried everything i can think of to get Windows XP Pro to recognise the hard drives when in RAID0.
the Raid controller is a Silicon Image one. i have tried partitioning the drives before RAID0ing them, i have tried formatting them then putting them in RAID. nothing seems to get XP Pro to acknowledge their existance while together. when not in the dedicated RAID SATA ports on the motherboard Windows detects them, and when partitioned, treats them like any other hard drive.

Any help or comments are greatly appreciated. i would like to exhaust all my sources of help before paying for someone to configure them. last time i paid for help they blew my power supply so im a bit weary.

Thanks.

You've got two RAID controllers on that board. The NV RAID controller and the SIL 3114 controller.

You're going to need drivers to run off the SIL controller.

But first, from within Windows, right click on My Computer and select Manage. Click Disk Manangement. See if your array shows up there. If it does, this is the place to partition and format the array. Afterwards, it will show up in My Computer.

If you don't see an entry in Device Manager for SCSI and RAID controllers, or something referring to the SIL controller, you either do not have the drivers installed for the controller, or the SIL controller itself is disabled in the BIOS.

Me, I'd run it off the NV controller if possible.

thanks alot! i did what you said and am currently formatting the 2 hard drives as a striped volume. i used the NV controller as you suggested and it seems that helped alot.
