Currently i have a 6800gt running in my system and on christmas im planing to add another 6800gt , but i was wondering if one 7800gt performs better then 2 6800gt's . Theres like a 100$ difference between those cards , which isn't that bad. i"ve googled "2x6800gt vs 7800gt " but didn't find anything .Any one have a clue how these two cards compare, some benchmarks or something...
The other problem is that i put a Artic Cooling vent on my gt , and i chaged the chipset fan on my A8n mobo to a zalman heatsink ... and any one who has done so knows that the vent on the vid card is too big and the heatsink is too high so you have to make a "whole " in the vent of the vid card, so for me to sell my card , i would have to buy another AC5 kit .
Any suggestions?

i'd say go for the 7800 gt deal that they're having at newegg now
only like 330 i think
i mean...if you get a 7800 gt...you can always get another one by the time it does you no good anymore
right?

put the stock cooler back on and sell it then buy a 7800gt
there are plenty of sli threads on this board with people asking the same question as you and the answer is always the same, sell your old card and go with a single card soultion.
it performs better, its eaiser, it runs cooler.

What monitor do you have? What games do you play? What resolution, AA, AF, details, settings do you like/want to play at?

These are the real questions. A 6800GT SLI rig will significantly outperform a single 7800GT at Doom3, SC:CT, Riddick, Far Cry, and FEAR at 16X12, as I have shown in this thread.

So it comes down to what is the resolution your monitor is limited to and what games will you be playing? I have a 6800GT SLI rig and a 7800GTX rig and can tell you the 6800GT SLI rig is VERY similar to gaming on a single 7800GTX. So I'd think it would beat a 7800GT.

For that resolution, you might want to get the SLI and have the 16X SLI AA? Either solution will push high frames and detail at that resolution, so the deciding factor would be if you prefer TAA or 16X AA.

Didn't think about the 16x AA... At that res that is a good idea. If SLI has worked out enough bugs, for once in my life I might agree with rollo....

Theres a huge thread on this very subject like 2 threads below this one. At least have the patience to look at the front page before posting a whole new one on the EXACT same subject.

LOL- glad we can agree.

They're pretty much worked out crazySOB297, these days they're mainly working on cool stuff like mix'n match cards and adding profiles. The 16X AA is pretty nice.

I would say since you already bought into the SLI(and any other multicard solution for that matter) and it would only make sense to save $$ and get another 6800.

Answer is always the same? That was not my answer.

OP: Check the thread titled "SLI Upgrade Path" with poll. Sift through the fanboy crap and look at all of the suggestions.

EDIT: In your case, I would get another 6800GT without question.
