2x512MB vs 1x1GB

I haven't build computers in a while so I forget a lot of this stuff.

The computer P4 3GHz Prescott has 2x512MB at the moment. I'm going to add another gig. Am I better off adding 2x512 or 1x1GB?

I'm also adding 1GB to a computer with a Core 2 Duo and 2x512MB ram. Should I add 2x512MB or 1x1GB?

Both computers have 2 slots available.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Are you planning on adding more? If you add 1x1GB, it will lose dual-channel, but you have one slot left.

I suggest 2x 512 for the pentium because I don't think you'll sink anymore money, but I at least would add more RAM to the C2D rig in the future.
