I am building a second system for gaming at work(FireDept). Which would you pick to go with an ABIT IS7 and a 2.4C?

Well i guess firefighters like to game also, in that case... Go for the gig.. It will last much longer before and upgrade.

It's for me to game on at the Fire Dept. We have computers at my station for the internet, but not for gaming. We have a lot of downtime on a 24hr shift and nothing passes the time like gaming.

IS7 has AC97 for the onboard sound which isnt that good, BUT i would go with the gig of ram as it will effect your performance more than the sound card

Nah, i'd go with 512MB RAM and an Audigy 2! 1GB of ram just wont be needed for your rig unless youre planning to run a few applications at once, 512MB will do absolutely fine. Added to that the Audigy 2 is an amazing soundcard and will bring your games alive, and surely getting decent sound out of a game is more important than an extra 512MB RAM that you won't really need? My computer with 512MB RAM performs no differently to my friends with 1GB of RAM in any gaming situation, dont waste your money get the soundcard too! :D:beer:

what motherboard are you gonna be using ??

if you were using an nforce2 motherboard for example you would already have great integrated sound

but yeah for gaming i would much rather have great sound than more than 512mb of mem

Depending on your Soundsystem you need to choose... If you plan on using headphones, I would guess that onboard sound would do for the first...

If you set up nice speakers or use high end stuff, get a nice soundcard... or just save the money...

then you don't need an audigy2
unless you will be using it's other features or plan to upgrade to some kinda speaker setup later on
