What is the end result to mix 512mb and 1gb cards?I have a 512 card,so will that help me,hinder me or indifferent?

Right now,my max resolution is 1600x1200 and maybe that is no problem.I would like to get a different lcd some day,so when i go to higher resolutions i'd like to know if i could get some help with the cached memory or not.Thanks.🙂

If you Xfire a 512MB with a 1GB it is the same thing as Xfiring a 512MB with a 512MB. The extra RAM on the 1GB card is not utilized unless you disable crossfire and use it as the primary card.

the 1gb card will become a 512mb card. just like how a a faster core would be throttled to match your 4850's.

this is why crossfire/sli doesn't make a good upgrade path- if you want to do it, you should really just buy two identical cards at the same time (hopefully getting a decent deal on them). if your 4850 is still available, i'd just match it, as 4850's are quite affordable right now.

Thank you sirs.🙂I was under the impression that 2 of these in crossfire netted good results,i dunno.I can get another sapphire card at a good price now.I wished i had gone with a 1gb memory though, and wonder if i am going to stutter in games when up the resolution with 2 512's or not benefit much..
