There's some reaally cheap 2x2GB ECC PC3200 memory on ebay. I'm wondering if it'd work in the nforce2. nVIDIA's website has only tested 1GB densities, and I think I read somewhere that nforce2 has a 3GB address limit. Can anyone confirm?

if you mean ecc memory which is meant for servers, then i would even question whether or not it would even POST with those modules.

I thought ECC ram works in regular non-ecc mobos but it'll just ignore the ECC feature?

not sure.

id bet that they get the 3GB limit because there were usually 3 slots on a NF2 boards, and only the 1GB sticks were tested and certified.

anything socket A is a 32bit cpu and should be able to address the 4GB minus your vga memory.

i ran only 2x1GB on my NF2 (8RDA+) so can't help ya there

Check the manufacturers specs for your specific NF2 MB.
It will spell out exactly what memory is supported.

Is the uber-cheap ebay ECC memory buffered or unbuffered?

IIRC nforce 2 can only handle 1GB DIMMs, not 2GB... so, no go.
I also have tried 4x1, and it was just too unstable with anything over 2GB (2x1), and I tried voltage tweaks, and all sorts of timings.
