Saw plenty of 3840x2160 displays back in 07-08...they never went public. Why? Cost might have been a slight issue, but now that LCDs are dirt cheap you should be able to easily find 48-64" displays like this for 1250-2000$. Simply stick 4 1080p panels together add some cost for the electronics needed to cube/scale a 1080 HDMI signal and include a DP port for full resolution images (DP has been able to do 4x1080p 60Hz for years). 3D would have to be done at 1080p 120Hz then cubed by the TV, but that shouldnt be very hard to do at all. Easier than scaling 720 to 1080.
Ive heard a few people mention this UHD, saying it wont be out untill 2017. It was doable 3 years ago. I much prefer 4:3, and was seriously looking at a 2x2 projector setup for 2048x1536 (120Hz)...but if they had something like this Id actually consider it too. Projectors have allot of downsides that LCDs dont. Especially if this was a single display that was run with a single input. Maybe I could get two "smaller" ones in portrait mode
Who wants to start a petition? Get those hippy display manufacturers to give us more resolution dang it! Ive been running a much better resolution than "HD" for 10 years...I want an upgrade!
