I currently have 1gb (512mb) Mushkin TCCD based PC4400 memory that runs at 2-2-2-5 1T settings upto 210mb. It runs 2-3-3-6 upto 230mb. I want similar memory, but at 2x1gb instead. Which 1gb sticks are capable of running dual channel at 2-2-2-5 at 200mhz+? Also, if I got matching TCCD memory, will I be able to run 4x512mb at similar timings? I'm guessing there is no way, and it probably won't be dual channel.
 
There are no known 2GB dual channel kits that will reach 2-2-2-5 @ 200+MHz.
You could always get four sticks of TCCD and overclock from there.
If you loosen the timings, the bandwidth will compensate. TCCD can hit 260-280MHz easily, sometimes reaching 300MHz.

Should you use four sticks, you will be forced to use 2T, but depending on which core you've got, you may need to drop down tho DDR333 speeds and overclock from there.

I heard that set does not OC very well. A couple of guys over at abxzone are getting the Crucial Ballistic 1GBX2 set but its $360! :disgust:

A friend of mine has that OCZ Plat kit, and it's a pretty popular 2x1GB set. He was able to get it up to 240MHz 3-3-3-7 timings, at 2.9V. 🙂 YMMV
 
I have the Crucial Ballistix Tracers, didn't really want the LED ones, but it was all that was available then, and the only thing missing from my build was the RAM, so I needed it quick.

I run the Ballistix at 3-3-3-8 1T @ 255MHz, 24/7. No problems what so ever. There isn't anyone that's been able to run them in the timings you want. Refer to this thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=67762 and you can see they'll run close to DDR600 with some tweaking, but never better timings than 3-3-3-8.

I'd run them higher than 255MHz, but my 3700 SD will need more than 1.55V for it to be prime95 stable, and (1.) My Asus Premium board tops out at 1.55. (2.) Don't feel save running my CPU higher than 1.55

BTW: I got my CPU running at slighlty over 2.8GHz at 255X11 @1.5375V, prime95 stable for 12 Hours+. So it's pretty good mem, if you don't mind spending the money on them
 
unfortunatly no OCZ5002048ELGE-K in the review. i would think they will perform very similar to the corsair. I guess we will have to wait and see. I noticed a couple of etailers have them in stock. i am runnin 2x512mb pc-4800 plat and have 2 more sticks on there way back from ocz. i am gonna give 4 x 512 a try before i go with 2 x 1gig sticks. If it was not for Battlefied 2 and the occasional video editing i would just stick with the 2 x 512. :beer:

you've heard me say i before probably but imo the best 1 gig sticks around for the $$

250x11, 2.5-3-2-8, 2.65v, 24/7. amazing sticks.
 
Hmm... I am having to face similar choices with my upcoming build. I have chosen the DFI NF4 Ultra-D, and want 2 gb (whilst keeping 1T timings).

However, in Australia, I do not have a wide range of choices to pick from. My choices are (from here):

Corsair twinx-3200 (?)
Corsair twinx-3200C2 (2.5-3-3-6)
Corsair XMS3200C2PRO (2.5-3-3-6)
Geil High performance (3-8-4-4?)
OCZ (3-3-3-7)
Kingston (3-?-?-?)

These are all around the $400 AUD mark, which is $100 more than corsair VS, but damned if I'll get that crap.

So? Any words of wisdom?
 
in that review they are obviously increasing CPU clockspeed and not reducing the multiplier to show the actual performance benefits of the memory.

You do NOT gain ~30% performance from overclocking your memory.
 
As others have said

Mushkin blue which rise4310 got to 257 at 2.5-3-2 @ 2.8V. I think they might be the same sticks as OCZ use in their 1GB premier overclocking DDR sets.

Crucial Value - they're just speed binned DDR500 Ballistix explaining their performance. Typically 240-250mhz at 3-3-3 at 2.8V. Of course you could still get less than 240mhz also but then again dud sticks with anything is possible. If you're running at speeds/timings RAM is not guaranteed to run at nothing is guaranteed. (I guess speed-binned ones just emphasis that). That goes for the Mushkin's above as well. Still given the numbers generally hitting between those numbers there's little point in spending so much extra on Ballistix for littel performance gain.


In all, not only are fast overclocked 1GB sicks viable but you can get them cheap and get them to run low volates eg 2.8V so no active cooling like VX and BH5!


Edit: though all things said - you're AMD64 platform is unlikely to benefit much more than a few percent. Even dual-core doesn't see that much benefit. Still those few % will probably make it quite competative against M2 unless AMD look to be adding much in the way of improvements - which they dont currently seem to be doing. Also staying with S939 means avoiding Presidio.
 
the ocz pc4000 are out, in select hands anyway. dfi.street is testing some- 260mhz 3-3-3-8 i think.

some guy at oc forums also got some but never reported back on them after starting burn-in. 🙁

anyway, they're both priced +350 from what i've seen.

AMD's hardware DRM solution - it'll be introduced with M2
 
Just picked up a pair of Corsair XMS 3200C2Pro (Pro version has the pretty flashing lights and larger heatsink). I bought them locally for $310 cash (total) which is a very good deal. Testing them this very minute with memtest86+ at 2.8V 2-3-3-9 in my Athlon 3200XP Nforce2 rig at 200MHz FSB....one full pass and so far so good.

I figured if I buy some good RAM now it will be less painful to upgrade the rest of my system in a couple months with a new mobo/cpu.

Supposedly this RAM will overclock very nicely...better than most other 1GB modules. We will see that when I get a newer mobo.
