2x PCI IDE controllers in one pc?

So would having 2x PCI IDE controllers on a pc work?

My mobo ide controllers are used. I have a PCI IDE controller and 3 is used and one of the secondary doesn't work for some reason 🙁.

Would a 2nd PCI IDE controller work in the same pc?

Just wanting to confirm it would work or not.

Thanks.

I'd suggest using a pair of the same brand / model and checking the manufacturer website first.

My Promise controller manual doesn't say one way or the other but I vaguely recall the website saying it was OK. Don't trust my fuzzy memories though!

Yes, it would work just fine. However, only certain controllers will work together (example: you have two 4-port Broadcom 4452 controllers, and you setup a 8 disk RAID array. Only certain cards can do this). But yes, you can use two, unless there are specific issues between two cards. I would do some reasearch with the cards you plan on getting, because SiS and Promise controllers didn't like working together there for a while...

I'm not going to use any RAID array or anything. I just don't want them to conflict so I can't use the other PCI IDE controller. I just want more IDE ports so I can add more HD's.

So do you think it would work for me?

Thanks.

Yeah... Do you know what cards you are getting? I'd go to their website, search around through their 'support' section, and look for issues. If you don't find anything, you should be good to go. But I don't think you have too much to worry about.

yes it will work fine. I use 2 promise cards in my burn box, I have 4 burners installed in it and 2 hdds.

I never had any problems with this setup

Like Tas and I said, conflicts may ensue if you use 2 different brands / models.

Unfortunately you'd only find this out once a disk's data was corrupted unless Google or the manufacturer's website turns up a known conflict.

I see guys.

The concenus is that it will work 🙂. The cards are cheap cards from dabs.com 😛. They cost £12. I alredy have one and it has worked fine apart from the secondary on one of the channels doesn't work 😛

Thanks guys.
