Hi,

I have 2x GTI 670 in my desktop now. I just got a Dell 30" 2560x1600 monitor. Would it be worth selling my GTI670s for about $160 each and get a R9 290 around $350 or get a 3rd GTX 670 card? My motherboard can support up 4x SLI. Thanks.

I assume these are 2gb cards which means another one is not going to help you increase settings in many cases anyway since the vram will be limiting you. at that res a 290 or really 290x make more sense.

Thanks for the info! Yes each has 2gbs.

I'd sit tight or go to 290xfire

670sli to 1x290 is great in limited situations, but a downgrade in others.

If you want to nail the 290 for limited out of pocket cash now then I think might make sense with possibity to go 290xfire down the road. But if upgraded to single 290 just for performance I think you will want more performance.

Hi,

I was thinking about getting the 290x instead of the 290. Is it comparable to 2x 670 in SLI? Thanks.

Depends on the game, but when there is a supported SLi profile and the the 670 SLI wins, it wins by like 10-15%, when the games doesn't support SLi it sucks, especially at 1440 or 1600.

2 x GTX 670 to a single 290 or 290x is not worth it in my opinion. Yes the 290(x) will have more VRAM but it would need a second 290 in crossfire to really beat those GTX 670 in SLI.

I say that you should whether buy 2 x GTX 780 (non-ti) or 2 x R9 290 (non-x).

But don't buy a third GTX 670!

Thanks for the replies and information. I agree a 3rd GTX 670 is a not a good idea. Are the next generation of video cards coming out anytime soon?

End of the year to about March 2015 I would say, TSMC have started to produce 20nm for AMD/Nvidia now, glad I upgraded from HD 7850 2GB crossfire to R9 290 though.
