2WD or 4WD?

I'm in the market for a Jeep Cherokee, and there are a lot of 2WDs. I always wanted a 4WD in case of bad weather and maybe for some offroading. Taking out the offroading, how much difference would there be between 2WD and 4WD if the roads got a little slick from snow? What if I was trying to drive up a mountain? I'm leaning toward waiting and finding a 4WD, but I'm open to opinions...

Get the 4WD.

4WD all the way. It will make a huge difference if the roads are slick. I have a 4WD Jeep Cherokee Sport and love it.

Get the 4WD. I know from experience that the 2wd Cherokee, while not terrible on ice, does not do very well. If you have icy rods to deal with very often, hold out for the 4wd. You don't want to feel bad about rushing things when you are sitting in a ditch someplace a few weeks from now.


Plus, why deprive yourself from the wonderful world of off-roading? It is a jeep after all, it's not like you're buying this thing for the gas mileage or anything silly like that.

Next....think when you sell it how many people out there will be just like you and wanting the 4WD version.

Loads of difference. We're talking the difference between making it up the mountain, and not.

Get the 4x4.

When I bought my truck a few years ago, I got a 2WD...but that's because I didn't think I would need 4WD.

Other than occasionally wanting to go sking up in the mountains, I'm glad I went with the 2WD because it's a little better on gas which is more important for me in the long run.

2wd sucks.

Trust me...there will be more than once in the time you own the vehicle you will REALLY wish you had 4wd.

if you know how 4wd works, what its limitations are, what its capabilities are, and what you can use it for its a great thing to have. if your going to be a soccer mom thats going to drive around a dry parking lot with the transfer case locked in 4wd and then blame the manufacturer when it grenades don't get it.
