Good price, but keep in mind these drives are not recommended for use with Windows Home Server. (they require special software that is not particularly compatible with WHS Drive Extender)

yeah, i've yet to find a simple guide for getting these to work with WHS, which kills because I desperately need more storage space in mine and this is a good deal

For my purpose, I didn't notice any. I use my WHS to:

1) Store my photos, videos, music, data, etc. Access seems fine.
2) Automatically backup all my PCs when left on. That happens when I am asleep. No performance issue there.
3) Stream movies wirelessly to my HTPC. Some times, there may be a quick stutter at the start of the movie or when I jump around. I always chalk that up as a player (XBMC) buffering issue. The stutter is quick and goes away when watching movie normally.

I don't move large files around all day and I don't measure performance of my WHS. On a daily use basis, I didn't notice any performance issue.

As what? A storage drive or main drive? As a main drive it's a bit more complicated. If you only want to use it as a storage drive, just pop a jumper on the 7/8 pin and slide it in the server.

I have 2 WD20EARS and 3 Samsung F3 FD103SI (I TB) in my WHS. The Disk Management plug-in reports the 2 WD drives running at 37C and 36C. The 3 Sammies are running at 23C, 29C and 25C. I read that F4 runs even more efficiently than F3. I would have picked F4 base on F3's track record. But on the other hand..... F4 also sports Advanced Format. I have not read anywhere that you can jumper some pins on F4 and run it in WHS. If you find the definitive answer, LMK.

The green ones use less electricity.
I think it's by usually being 5400 rpm vs the 7200 speeds and with how much they park the heads.
