looking for a 2tb ssd . Basically while I am not rich and won't be so soon.

I would prefer a 1.5tb or 2tb ssd over my current 750gb and 1tb samsung ssd's.

Does anyone know of any date for these to come out in a consumer version.

I think that the problem resides in the controllers, they're not capable of addressing 2TB yet because the prices were so high no one would buy such things.

Now that the prices have become more tan reasonable we'll provably start seeing capable controllers and 2TB drives; although maybe we have to wait until 16 nm NAND is more common.

SSD capacities are limited by addressable dies, so either denser NAND, or newer controllers, will be needed. 3D NAND may do it, or maybe controllers will step up to the plate.

That $4K is because that's a serious server part, with lots of R&D costs, a small market (compared to consumer SSDs), and cherry-picked NAND. It's competitive for what it is, but there's no reason why a less server-centric (or middle of the road, like the M500DC) $1K ~2TB SSD couldn't be, or shouldn't be, right around the corner.

Times they are a chaingin'
