I'm looking to centralize the storage in my house, and was thinking I might go the way of a NAS. I have an actiontec MI424WR-GEN2-F router, so I have ethernet ports and 802.11bgn. The NAS would be used by a few computers in the house, and I was looking for about 1-2TB of space. If I can use it as DVR storage from the tuners in my one desktop, I might go higher.
However, I want it raided. If a drive dies, I want to be able to have access to the data while waiting for the replacement, swap in that replacement, and have the data fully accessible immediately after having put the new drive in. I don't want down time for a single drive failure- none upon failure, and none for rebuilding. I don't care if access is slower during a rebuild, but I want the NAS to basically have the contents available given any state of the drives (within a single failure scheme).
I'm kind of on a budget too, so I would like to know if this concept is at some time and price taggage down the road. Thanks.
