Forget Tupac vs Biggie. What the fuck happened to rap in general? Back in the day some of the songs were actually about telling a story through their art. Now it's just computer generated bullshit where every other word is a racial slur or curse word. Old school rap wasn't clean, but they had a real message to convey like "look how terrible life is in ghetto" or "life as a poor black kid is hard." Now it's "money, bitches, money, bitches, fuck, fuck, fuck, money, money, bitches, hos" and the retarded masses eat it up.

The genre got too popular too fast and was rapidly commercialized.

It's called pop music and it's 99% shit in general.

Back in the day, you'd get your ass kicked calling a rapper pop, now you have Juicy-J rapping with Katy Perry. D:

biggie all day to me.

i think for me, there was TOO much tupac out there, that there was quite a bit of it that i didn't like. biggie didn't have too many songs (comparably) and i pretty much like every single biggie song. he's by far my #1 favorite rapper of all time and i still listen to him all the time. tupac reminds me of jay z (as far as having SO many songs out there), who is also another rapper that has a lot of songs i don't like just because he has so many songs out there.

i still love tupac though. i don't even know if i'd call him my 2nd favorite or anything either though. think my 2nd favorite would be mobb deep.

lol i found this the other day when we were cleaning out closets in my house and hung it up in my office without my wife even knowing, then when she came home i showed her what i found and hung up and she LOL'd. my mom got it for me when i was like 18 or something.

Back in the early days, I recall that the rap audience was mostly white frat boys. I never really figured out what rap offered rich suburban kids; I guess the best rebellion one could by at the mall.

I only know maybe... two 2pac songs that are very popular and I know all the words to.

I know probably 10+ Biggie songs that were popular and I know the words to. For me, Biggie had "catchier" beats and lyrics. Perhaps 2pac was better at rapping real life "stories" but Biggie did a pretty good job, too.

Overall, for me, Biggie was best.

ITT: Quebert proves once again, his tastes as so terrible they deserve to never be spoken. Neither make the top 50? Please list 10 better rappers than either.

As far as greatest lyrcist, I wouldn't go with either. Talib Kweli takes that. And best album is Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.

Ok, if you do not like rap, fine, take a hike. But if you can appreciate this music to any extent, I'm interested in your opinion.

Biggie only put out two albums. Most of his lyrics were vain and about bragging. Although he was skilled with creating these lyrics, the content wasn't very deep or especially poetic.

2Pac on the other end was a political and poetic force. Meaning behind most of his lyrics in addition the superior production of his music. All Eyez on Me, easily the great rap album of all time. All this and I'm ignoring his posthumous releases because he was not alive to supervise the production.

Intellectually and musically superior, how can anyone, besides an East Coast fanboy, say Biggie was better? This is akin to a modern AMD fanboy ignoring processor bench results.

Me Against the World and 2Pacalypse Now are better albums than All Eyez on Me IMO. I still think Brenda's Got a Baby is Pac's most powerful song.

The Thug Life album was really underrated too.

Yeah Rakim was no joke.

Put my tape on pause and add some more to your's

I think that's my favorite line ever. That whole song is incredible and then everything else on Paid in Full was A+ material too. I just wish they had the remix of Paid in Full from the Colors soundtrack on the original tape. Speaking of Colors, Ice-T is ridiculously underrated. Rhyme Pays, Power, Iceberg, and OG were all incredible albums.

You couldn't catch me in the streets without a ton of reefer.
That's like Malcolm X catching the jungle fever.

I'm not sure I'd put either in my top 10, as much as I love both 2Pac and Biggie. They'd be right on the bubble I think. Off the top of my head I'd pick these guys over both:

Rakim
Ice-T
KRS One
Eazy E
Run
Kool Keith
Scarface
Nas
Erick Sermon

NetWareHead

Anybody like Big L? Some of the funniest, most clever and insulting lyrics I have heard. One of my favorites
