So my second 360 bit the dust. Got the first in the spring and that one died in the summer. Turnaround time for that was about 3 weeks if i recall. I'm gonna have to call tomorrow but what are the odds I can get one quicker? I mean, it would be nice if as soon as they got UPS confirmation that I shipped one they sent me a new one, but thats highly unlikely. Last time they did give me a whopping 1 months of live free for my troubles! I wish this system wasn't so damn fun so maybe I wouldn't miss it so much :(

Anyway, cliffs:
2nd xbox broke in less than 9 months, me sad, want new one quick.

You should just say "screw you MS" and go buy a brand new XBOX 360.

F that, get a PS3. I doubt you'll be able to get it quicker than that considering how many they have to handle.

Tried the towel trick last night. Didn't do squat, unless I'm doing it wrong. Wrapped it in a towel and left it on for 15 minutes. Still broke :(

Called and they said the turnaround time will be around 3 weeks. I tried to see if there were any quicker options but the woman on the other end couldn't answer any questions that weren't on her script, if she could understand me at all, and I certainly couldn't understand her well enough to make it a meaningful conversation. Outsourcing is so frustrating.

Should have bought it from Costco or bought it at Best Buy with a 2yrs warranty. If it break, take it back and get a new one. Simple and fast.

Wrap it up in 3 towels. A single towel didn't work for me, but 3 did. Left the unit running for about 25-30 min.

Why would you do that?

Never heard of the towel trick? You basically wrap the unit up in some towels so you block the airflow to the unit, leave it running for 15-30 mins to "cook" the insides, remove towels to let it cool and voila, it works again.

The theory is that overheating the unit causes the loose solder to re-melt back together, resulting in a functioning unit again. It's a temporary fix so don't expect any long term miracles out of this.

There's an expedited service for getting your 360 repaired. It costs $280 and comes with a free controller and a 256MB memory card.

Go to your local retailer and ask about the 'Xbox 360 Arcade Package' ;)

mine died today too :( Ill have to try that towel trick, though, since the box they are sending I'm sure wont be here for a while. So I am guessing you basically cover up all the vent holes? Whats weird about mine is that I turned it on and after 5 min it froze then I restarted and it froze in the boot up screen. Took a while for it to realize it was broken i guess.

Mine also got killed today with RROD. It lasted over an year, but I knew it was going to go out at some point. I probably pushed it over with playing 8 hours of Mass Effect yesterday.

What would be the best way to send it in? Should I call them or use the online system?

if your unit is over a year old i think you have to call them up or at least i couldn't find a way to request service since you technically don't have warranty except for rrod.
