which is the failed backflip

which is the crowd going wild

need to be hammering loeffler and perdue's bullshit fake claim to be for it while mcconnell gives them cover (which is what they've been doing for ages, mcconnell is safe as can be there in kentucky so is able to give a few republican senators the ability to furrow their brows and pretend to be concerned about something and claim well i would but we didn't have the votes - when this doesn't pass josh hawley is going on his fake hayseed tour in 2022 to iowa talking about how he supported it blah blah)
They are doing that though. The main reason republicans are even considering this is because Perdue and Loeffler are getting hammered on it relentlessly. It’s why McConnell passed the first relief bill when he clearly didn’t want to.

That doesn’t change the fact that you’re asking Republicans to go against the primary motivating purpose of their party and use government to help regular people. That’s something they are going to try very, very hard to avoid and to win all they need is to muddy the waters, which is pretty easy to do.

I doubt it will matter, like I said there’s not really anything the Democrats can do.

I hope I’m wrong, but the idea that Republicans are going to give households $4,000 each when instead they could just rely on the media to #bothsides the issue seems...unlikely.

The republicans really do run circles around the dems when it comes to disinformation. Just look at how the very successfully confused people into thinking the covid relief was going to send money to countries like Pakistan.

how's the dems' messaging on the obvious poison pill trick that anyone with a brain could see coming a mile away? that's mitch's other technique for killing things. (this should be pretty easy with all the whinging about foreign aid last week)

Well most of the time disinformation doesn’t help the Democrats.

Take this bill for example - what lie could/should the Democrats tell that would help them win the Georgia runoffs and/or get the bill passed?

What message do you think would be effective? Section 230 is not easy to explain in a way people will care about.

I doubt you are going to get anyone to believe that.

More importantly though, that will most likely cause people to oppose the bill entirely, which is what Mitch wants.

While the dems will bend the truth, republicans has woven an entirely made up realty. It isn't a fair fight. So to answer the question none.

Democrats have actually voiced some favorably with revoking 230.

They were the ones complaining that republican misinformation is rampant on the platforms and that they need to be held accountable. How do you think that occurs?

Anyhow, that hasnt yet been confirmed or hinted at.

So dishonest. Revoking 230 would mean reversion to prior law & that social media wouldn't be able to moderate content at all, which is what Trump wants-

In the early 1990s, the Internet became more widely adopted and created means for users to engage in forums and other user-generated content. While this helped to expand the use of the Internet, it also resulted in a number of legal cases putting service providers at fault for the content generated by its users. This concern was raised by legal challenges against CompuServe and Prodigy, early service providers at this time.[13] CompuServe stated they would not attempt to regulate what users posted on their services, while Prodigy had employed a team of moderators to validate content. Both faced legal challenges related to content posted by their users. In Cubby, Inc. v. CompuServe Inc., CompuServe was found not be at fault as, by its stance as allowing all content to go unmoderated, it was a distributor and thus not liable for libelous content posted by users. However, Stratton Oakmont, Inc. v. Prodigy Services Co. found that as Prodigy had taken an editorial role with regard to customer content, it was a publisher and legally responsible for libel committed by customers.

It’s that American government has way too many veto points. If even one of either the president, the house speaker, the senate majority leader, or the Supreme Court doesn’t want something to happen, it doesn’t. It’s one of the flaws baked into the constitution.

My take on the national discussion about the stimulus check. This is what I hear when listening to them:

As your Senator from Kentucky it has come to my attention that the task of figuring out who is most deserving of a stimulus check would be a hard task that would require me to personally do work and maybe even take an official stance on on something. In further research it becomes abundantly apparent that doing so is not at all required for the important task of transferring huge amounts of taxpayer dollars to our wealthiest donors. Did you know that the American Airline industry made 20.8 billion dollars in profit in 2019, but are looking at making less that 10 billion in profit this year!?! Something must be done immediately. A bailout of the multibillion dollar airline industry must be our top priority. Not to do so would be a financial disaster for literally scores of rich people!

McConnell is trying to have two cakes and eat it too. He wants to deny our citizens $2000, so objected and would not bring it up for a simple up or down vote. He will consider the $2000, but wants to attach other shit to the bill, which will surely be down voted in the house, then he can blame Democrats.
Warning to Mitch: Every Republican and Democrat sees what you're trying to do here.
He could have simply brought the $2k up for a vote and it should have easily passed in the Senate, but he decided to take the kinky reach around route to have something to blame on the Democrats. Passing the the $2k would have helped the Republicans in the GA runoffs. Doing it Mitch's way is a substantial risk to Republicans in that election, except now he gets to smear Democrats, as he thinks that's a winning strategy.
Mitch McConnell is currently the biggest asshole walking the planet. Congratulations to him for being hated by both sides. Nice job twat!!

Mitch McConnell could be removed from his position at any time by Republicans in the Senate yet they refuse to do so. Republicans get the blame for this, not just Mitch.

Mitch don't care. His constituency is a handful of ultrawealthy donors. As long as they're happy, Mitch is good. The likelihood of the Reps losing the Senate is very small and is a risk Mitch is willing to take to keep his donors happy.

For once we agree, although I think the reason he’s doing it is not to blame democrats.

He’s doing it because he’s strongly opposed to giving poor and middle class people money. If the house passed an upper class tax cut of EXACTLY the same size he would pass it in a second. Mitch’s problem is these payments are super popular so he can’t just oppose them outright. Tacking on these other unrelated things is so he can pretend to be in favor of them and muddy the waters as to whose fault it is.
