2nd scsi drive reverting to narrow mode...help!

I just got a 9 gb U160 scsi drive. seagate cheetah st39204lw.

I'm adding it to the same cable as my existing 18 GB U160 drive. When I do so it shows up as narrow and makes to whole channel narrow.

the old drive is an 80 pin with a 68pin adapter. the new one is just a 68 pin but is in a lian-li rh600 mobile rack that is supposed to be rated at U160
new drive id is 2, old one is 0. adapter is a tekram DC390U3w.

Any ideas?

Do you have the same problem if you hook the drive up without the rack?

I had a similar problem with one of my RH-600 and all i had to do was reseat the internal connector to fix the problem.

Well, that rules out the rack as the problem. You don't happen to have a jumper on the SE position on the drive do you? Also, does your LVD cable have a terminator on the end? (curious as some SCA adapters have that built-in already which could be why your old setup worked without a terminated cable) Does the drive show up as U160 when used by itself?

no jumper on drive, it has a cable that goes to the mobile rack there for id selection.

yes external terminator. the old drive worked at full speed till I added this one
