I am using WinXP Pro on my main machine and Win2000 Pro on the 2nd.
Both are running off of a hub, with my Cable modem plugged into the Uplink port.
I can ping both machines fine from one another, and have no problem mapping drives or copying files back and forth.
My problem is that when I use my XP machine as a server in the game Unreal Tournament, my 2nd PC using Win2k will be fine for about 10 minutes, then it just disconnects (the Win2k machine can join 'LAN Games' inside UT, where it sees my XP machine as server). Once to the desktop, I can no longer PING my XP machine, but my XP machine can PING the Win2k PC...
Another wierd thing is I use a proxy on my XP box that allows my Win2k machine to access the internet, and I can still actually surf the web at this point on my Win2k box.
I have my XP firewall disabled, because I use Sygate Personal Firewall, which I have also disabled in troubleshooting this problem.
All drives are shared on both PC's, and I have 'Client For MS Networks', 'File & Printer Sharing', and 'TCP/IP' installed on both as well.
The only thing that resolves this problem is if I reboot my Win2k machine, then it will be able to come on and stay online in UT for another 10-15 minutes, before it disconnects once again.
I have tried installing NetBEUI but that did not make a difference, I have changed NIC cards, hubs, hub-ports, patch cables... nothing.
Please someone help me because I am growing very aggrivated with this.
I know that I need a router and that this would probably solve all my problems, but unfortunately I cannot at this time, so I'm trying to find a work-around. It sounds like TCP/IP just quits working but I can't be sure.
Thanks!
