A seven-year-old boy was suspended from his elementary school for using an imaginary grenade while playing "Rescue the World" on the playground.
The story was featured on Fox 31 Denver. Second-grader Alex Evans pretended to throw a grenade into a box full of, in his words, "pretend evil forces."
"I pretended the box, there's something shaking in it, and I go pshhh," Alex explained.
Unfortunately for Alex, his exploits (heroic as they were) went against Mary Blair Elementary School rules. Those rules include no fighting (real or pretend) and no weapons (real or pretend).
Alex's mom commented that she doesn't think the rule is practical. "Honestly I don’t think the rule is very realistic for kids this age,” Mandie Watkins said. "I think that when a child is trying to save the world, I don’t think he should be punished for it."
Alex is just as perplexed as his mom. "I was trying to save people and I just can’t believe I got dispended," he told Fox 31.
A similar incident took place last month in Pennsylvania when a fifth-grade girl was reprimanded by school officials for bringing a piece of paper in the shape of gun to class.

A 2nd grader was suspended from school for throwing an imaginary grenade while playing rescue the world on the playground

Apparently this is against school rules and he was suspended for this.

This kid did nothing wrong and should not have been suspended over this. It is ridiculous to suspend the kid over this, the kid is going to miss school and he didn't do anything wrong

Whoever suspended him should be fired, this type of stupidity is simply unacceptable . This is political correctness gone too far, trying to remove everything that is considered offensive and be pc

Do you think the kid shouldn't have been suspended over this?

Did the school go too far by suspending him?

The real problem is that schools are forced by the legal system and sue-happy parents to have written procedures for everything and follow them to the very letter in all situations.

Agree, There is way too much political correctness in the school system and it has to be removed.

The legal system and parents need to go away

Suspension is justified.

Save the world - as the school allows it to be played is a game that requires no violence and no weapons. The fact that he brought a pretend grenade to what is supposed to be a game that promotes amicable conflict resolution is what is troubling about American culture.

It's right up there with those Charter Schools who rack up excessive fees from students for disciplinary infractions like, having a shoe lace untied, or not having your pencil sharpened..and crap like that.

This isn't political correctness this is just teachers/administrations gone nuts on the whole perceived "violence" and teaching kids not to be violent. It's just stupid. If they had any child psychology training at all they would know this is normal play behavior, and they just did more harm than good by suspending that child.

They are not forced, they just fear what would happen. Everyone fears what would happen. Why? The simple answer is "we would lose our jobs." But, what would happen if lawsuits simply ran unabated? A situation quite close to reality in my opinion. The harder question is what value do we put on our children's education? That's a very hard question and one that's not been addressed in any logical manor. The ONE aspect of all the many and varied factors that affect education and it's effects on society, the economy and, future trends is the cost of litigation. I personally believe that the sole reason this is the only factor addressed is due to the pernicious attacks on society by lawyers.

I see you haven't had much exposure to children. Kids are inherently vicious. It doesn't matter what culture you're referencing. Children learn by pushing boundaries in all directions. Some cultures are quite repressive and so, children learn "acceptable" behavior earlier.

BS. Kids are loving and caring but need a firm consistent hand that offers love comfort and law. I have no problem with a spanking that stings . Leave a mark you go way to far.
