The boinc server farm is having hardware problems and so the servers and website have been turned off. We'll post an ETA for coming back up as we know more.

Oh well, managed filling the cache on one machine, and the rest pre-empts to CPDN. 😉

We are back up after restarting the Snap Appliance and making sure everything is OK. We had a long conference call with the engineers at Snap this morning they have come up with a work around as well as a potential fix that should end the system hangs. Thanks go to the Snap App folks for working very hard on this problem.

During all of this some web site files were lost and these are being restored now.

I got quite a few WU's and four have completed, but none are currently being processed. This machine is basically at a standstill. I tried to stop and re-start.

Here is the log file:

What do I need to do to clear this up? (This one has a Xeon processor so it can crank out some Wu's if given the opportunity)

Pokey, try goto the project-tab and right-click seti and choose "update" (or retry), this should report any bad results and ask for more...

As for anyone STILL running windos9x, my suggestion is to upgrade to a more modern OS like NT4...

Can someone please explain to me the benefit of running BOING!!!???
It does the same work as classic, when you can get WUs.

I just do not understand the mentality that says: ohh lets install this software that does nothing and when we cant get any work units to do, we will moan grown and complain. Yah!! Sounds like fun!!! I'm in.

Climateprediction.net, another BOINC-based project, is now open. We urge all SETI@home to consider participating in Climateprediction.net. This will keep your computer busy (and earning credit) even when SETI@home has no work available.

As for reasons for running BOINC, multi-project-supoort, built-in-cache, multi-cpu-support, fairer crediting & cheat-protection in projects like seti there you'll only get credit if crunched correctly, and only the user getting assigned a "result" can return this result and it can only be returned once.

Specifically for seti, in "classic" the average is now 7.275 results/wu total over the project and increasing, so more likely 15+ now. In the BOINC-version, every wu is only given out to 3 users and only if someone misses their 14-day-deadline or wrong/error is more "results" given out for this wu...

Our storage array hung again (the SnapApp work around is not yet implemented). It has not yet responded to a reboot command. Date service may well be off until we can hard reset it tomorrow morning.

We are investigating the Win98 hang/crashing issues in this Thread Please check it out for any updates.
NOTE: This bug puts your machine in a state that causes you to reset your machine in order to be able to use it, this in turn can cause disk corruption. We recommend that you hold off executing BOINC on Win98 and WinME until thiss issue is resolved.

I am working to upgrade my boxes to run CPDN while Seti-BOINC is down, after Seti is back up i will most likely run them at 99% Seti to 1% CPDN to have a sort of built in automatic backup for when Berkeley turns into Bezerkley as it has been doing quite a bit lately.

And yes, of course i've joined the TA CPDN team 🙂
