good evening fine ladies and gents!

do any of you who don't keep their best camera with them all the time have a spare in their car at all times (just in case so you can get a shot)?

if so, what kinds of cool things have you photographed that you weren't planning to?

(i realize this idea might be semi-obsolete due to so many phones having cameras on them but still...)

thanks!

I used to keep my T2i in my car, until I got my iPhone 4S. I get a lot of shots just out the window now with my iPhone. The nice thing is I can tinker with the picture on the spot - crop, add color effects, etc. So if I'm driving to work and there's a nice sunrise, I'll pull over, snap a picture of it, drive to work, edit it in the parking lot, and have a nice photo! Here's a couple shots that were stop, snap, drive!

I have multiple spare cameras but I am afraid of what the heat in a glove compartment or trunk might do to it. Otherwise, I'd love to leave one in the car.

A couple of years ago, I had an old Coolpix 775 that I left in the car. Never really worked well; either the battery was dead or the lens fogged up whenever I tried to use the camera.

These days, I always have my S95 with me for images or video.

I had a camera in the car two weeks ago. I took the car to the car wash, and not long after I entered the waiting area, a young man came running in with my camera - "Sir! You7 forgot this in the car!" :)

on the way back from getting breakfast i saw an owl get a squirrel and fly up to a tree... thought to myself: wish i had a camera with me! might have to start looking for a cheap used one to keep in the car.

On sunny day, I bring my E-520/70-300mm to the car. I do sometimes spend half of my lunch to go across the street from where I work - there is a little wood, if you can call that. I've taken some of bird photos there, incl. photos of birds I've seen first time...

I'm looking to pick up a D7000 right now (Nikon's latest notice from a day or two ago suggests they'll be available in store in the next 1-2 months! :D) and once I do, I plan to keep my old D70 with my cheapest lens in the car all the time.
