If it's a true 8ms, there won't be any ghosting. So 2ms is really just marketing.
Either way it should be an impressive monitor, but at what price? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

BTW: The Viewsoinic VX922 already boasts a 2ms response time.

My ViewSonic VX922 yesterday. Still getting used to the text, but games play well. I'm not done tweaking it yet though, so hopefully the text will get better.

Isn't grey-to-grey a way to unrealistically reduce the response time? I thought Black-to-Black was the one that mattered most. Though even if that was around a true 8ms, I doubt there would be any ghosting. 2005FPWs ghost very little to none (depending the person) and they're a 12ms/16ms range supposedly!

What about color fidelity? Those incredibly sleek LG panels (1981Q etc.) can display only 16.2 million as opposed to the more popular 16.7 million. At this point I am more worried about this than pixel refresh rate.

anandtech wrote an article about this. that you'll get the marketting hype, but if you truly look deep enough, there must be a loop hole where something isn't right. otherwise, I would say that this is pretty groundbreaking, considering the average ms that most LCD monitors have today.

same :p it looks good but i wonder how much it'll cost...does response time really affect that much performance?

It's very likely a 6-bit TN panel (less color fidelity than an 8-bit). Yes, there should be a difference between this and a "8 ms." monitor. It uses a new and more aggressive response time accelerator chip. There may not be a whole lot of difference between this Samsung 2 ms. and ViewSonic's VX922.

What you'll begin to see with the RTA chips is the pixels in motion hold up a lot better in terms of contrast, so no afterglow, just some smearing here and there. This also has its consequences. For example, due to its nature, some things will get slightly discolored during motion (the effect of this "overshoot" varies from 0 to 200% on LCDs, so it's impossible to tell at this point). I can tell you Samsung has made some duds with their other TN LCDs due to awful overshoot (like the Samsung *BF series measured by X-Bit Labs), that the ViewSonic VX* series don't have. Maybe this time around they have fixed that.

These TN-RTA panels will remain the fastest, beating the VA-RTA ones (VP930b, 970P) especially in the 0-50 color transitions.
