Ok I recently rebuilt my computer and decided to put XP on here to try it out, it came to my attention that the new GUI is sweet! After a few days of using it tho, I noticed that my 2k system was never this slow before I rebuilt the computer. A friend of mine let me know that XP uses a lot of system resources that 2k would never do.

I didn't decide to put 2k back on here so I looked for a solution. Instead of the new GUI XP gave you, I switched everything to "classical" view and it runs pretty smooth now. For anyone who is having the same problem as me, all you have to do is change back to the old GUI and it works like a charm...

This topic may have come up before in the past, I'm not really sure. I'm just tryin to help anyone out that may be having the same problem. And I was a bit bored of sittin around so I thought I'd post something.

Yeah, it's a well known problem that XP's fancy GUI hogs up an insane amount of memory, so users with less processing power and memory are far better off removing it.

I turned it off myself, because I got fed up with it. I prefer the plain classic windows setup for some reason.

I still like the plain old Win2k....After all, it is what is running on my servers.

I stick w/ Windows 2000 when installing on legacy hardware, 1GHZ or less, XP is very resource intensive, however newer hardware 1GHZ+ should have no trouble with the XP UI's. Otherwise turn them off and go classic.....
