Ok, my basic question is, is upgrading from Windows 2000 to Windows XP worth it? or should I just stick with 2000 until the service pack releases come to a halt?
Note - I didn't notice the Poll that came before this. Sorry.
I haven't used XP, but from what I have been reading, XP is prettier and solid, but all the prettiness seems to come at a price: performance. From what I have read and heard from others is that XP lacks some in performance.
After running XP builds;2485, 2505 and 2600 for four months I am now back to 2K. IMHO 2k is faster Direct CD did not work the builtin firewall is useless I had a lot of problems with my network connection etc, etc, etc
It is worth it. XP is such an easy install and it comes with so many drivers.
It almost takes care of itself. I got two new gamepads yesterday and XP installed them for me (I did not need the install disks).
How can you not love that.
Win 2000 is cool, but it always needs a babysiter.
If you look through the forums, most like XP better.
change is hard for some, but they did a go job on the os.
I'd stick with 2k. XP isn't that different from 2k in terms of management / functions. Sure it does have features like built in firewall, remote assistant, system restore, built in CD writing / zip software etc... But if you already got 3rd party software to do these they almost always offer better features than the ones built into XP.
Sure if you like the new GUI then go for it. To me I find myself turning everything off including the new GUI and it just looks / behaves almost the same as 2k except for the small lag in speed still there when compared with 2k.
It's a worthy upgrade from 9x. But going from NT5.0 to NT5.1 isn't definately not worth the money.
Xp is much better than 2k. Its worth it if you dont have to buy it I got mine for free but would not spend the cash to go from 2k to XP not worth it. you need to have direct cd 5 plat to burn cds with XP.
win2k is worth it, xp is too much fancy thigns that one doesn't need.. also if you have a slow computer, like mine, P2 300, win2k is the best way to go .. don't even try installing xp on something so fast hehehe
