2k monitor: Should I? Y or y not?

Looking to get a new monitor.

I am comfortable spending up to $300 give or take $50.
Im looking for a 27".

It will be used for general desktop/internet browing. But also for some gaming ( nothing hardcore ). I might dabble into some home video editing too.

I see there are some monitors on newegg that look reasonably priced.
If 2k monitors are similarly priced to regular 1980 ( I might be off with my number...?0 ) why wouldnt you want a 2k monitor?

Is there any advantage to having a 2k monitor vs not?
I assume a 2k monitor gives a more clear sharp defined image?

2k just means anything that is 1920x*. Typically 1920x1080.

What display do you have now?

1920x1080 is not 2k correct?

Haven't read a proper review about it, some Google sources say it's IPS while other sources mention that it uses an advanced VA panel with 178 / 178 viewing angles. Either way it should be decent.

Not sure on Acer myself either, but they don't make the panel themselves anyway, they outsource.

2K is effectively 2048x1080.

2K Reference is 2048x1566, and sometimes it is the 16:9 2048x1152.

The DCI 2K standard, the most used film/production-specific, is 2048x1080.

2560x1440, or 2560x1080, is best to refer to them as exactly that. To be specific, they have no 2K, 4K, or other easily-used shorthand. The only "shorthand" for those two resolutions:
WQHD = 2560x1440
WQXGA = 2560x1600

Aside from that point, if you are aiming for 27" or larger as a computer display, I would recommend 2560x1440 or 2560x1600.

Do not go below WQHD on a 27" monitor. FHD at that size looks stupidly big, and you're wasting screen space. Considering that monitors are typically kept for a long time (5+ years) I'd advise you to put as much money into it as you can realistically afford, and get one that fulfills all your wishes and needs.
